Mourinho emphasizes Man Utd ‘clearing the red tape’

AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho has hinted that Manchester United must undergo a personnel overhaul if they are to revive their fortunes.

‘There is still deadwood at United that I saw when I was there, Mourinho said,’ British media outlet The Telegraph reported on Sept. 19 (ET).

The Telegraph continued, “Mourinho appeared on the Obi One podcast. He pointed out that there are still players and staff who warned him seven years ago that he would not succeed at Old Trafford”.

Mourinho was appointed United manager in May 2016. The club sacked him in December 2018, midway through the 2018-2019 season. Mourinho won the League Cup (Carabao Cup) and Europa League in the 2016-2017 season.

“They still have those people at United,” Mourinho said. The people I’m talking about are not only players, but also non-players. When I came to United, two months later, I said that we could never succeed with them, and here they are,” he said, tongue in cheek.

In other words, the reason why United have yet to recapture their former glory is because of the wrong people.

“Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay were all first-team players when Mourinho arrived at United,” says the Telegraph. Mourinho wanted to sell Marcial, but United refused. Mourinho criticized Shaw throughout his tenure at United. He even questioned Rashford’s character and humanity.

Mourinho’s successor, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, echoed similar sentiments.

“Some players are not as good as they 안전놀이터 think they are. I’m not going to name names,” he said, criticizing United players for overestimating themselves.

Mourinho added: “I have no regrets because I gave everything to United. The United fans know that. They know how much I loved the club. I once visited a stadium as a match commentator and the whole crowd clapped and sang for me,” he said.
